Jared Novelly named new US ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa
US President Donald Trump has announced Illawarra Hawks owner Jared Novelly as the next ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa. Novelly, described by Trump as a philanthropist, succeeds Tom Udall, who returned to the United States in January.

One building has been demolished and another has been declared dangerous following a series of fires at the former Centrepoint commune site in Albany. Police are investigating a blaze at the Mills Lane property on 17 January as suspicious. Fire and Emergency responded to six fires at the location since late December.
