Record number of hihi fledglings recorded on Tiritiri Matangi Island

A record-breaking breeding season on Tiritiri Matangi Island has produced 277 hihi fledglings. To support the species, 40 of these birds were recently moved to Shakespear Open Sanctuary on the Whangaparāoa Peninsula to bolster their population.
