Tornado and marble-sized hail hit Canterbury

A tornado was sighted near Rakaia as a severe thunderstorm hit parts of Canterbury on Thursday afternoon. Residents reported marble-sized hail and heavy-handed wind gusts following a sudden onset of thunderstorms. The severe thunderstorm watch for the region was lifted later in the evening.
