The 2025 Annual Groundwater Quality Survey shows nitrate concentrations are increasing in almost 60 per cent of Canterbury wells. While Environment Canterbury reported fewer E. coli detections, the organisation and Greenpeace Aotearoa disagree over the survey's findings regarding the region's nitrate challenges.
