The Electricity Authority has announced three reforms targeting New Zealand's four largest gentailers to improve market competition. A new pricing rule will prevent these companies from offering discounted rates to their own retail operations. Energy Minister Simon Watts welcomed the moves, stating they will level the playing field for smaller retailers.
