Unemployment rate rises to 5.3 percent

New Stats NZ data shows the unemployment rate has reached a near nine-year high of 5.3 percent. Approximately 160,000 people were without work in the September quarter, an increase from 148,000 in the previous period. Annual wage growth has also slowed to 2.1 percent.
