Deputy mayor Sandra Kai Fong has labelled a suggested rates swap as unfair and a misnomer. The $31 million to $32 million scheme follows new regional council rules regarding effluent treatment. While total rates would remain the same, Kai Fong expressed concern that the proposal makes the district council appear to be raising rates.
