The 134-year-old Tawhai Tunnel is scheduled to reopen this Sunday following repairs to its damaged brick lining. The closure began in June after structural issues were discovered, and coal trains are expected to resume running to Lyttelton. KiwiRail has advised West Coast locals to remain vigilant at level crossings.
