A coroner has ruled that Tēvita Moeakiola drowned in 2022 while attempting to swim to shore after his boat capsized near Musick Point. The 51-year-old was not wearing a lifejacket during the fishing trip. Coroner Rachael Schmidt-McCleave has urged people to wear lifejackets and carry waterproof devices.
