Taranaki regional councillor Mike Davey has proposed merging eleven councils, spanning from New Plymouth to Horowhenua, into a single entity. The plan would reduce the number of elected representatives by 95 per cent, leaving six councillors and one leader. Davey's opponents at a candidates meeting did not agree with the proposal.
