Residents in Kaikōura are bracing for incoming northwesterly gales following fires that destroyed more than a dozen homes and structures. The blaze, fuelled by winds reaching 150km/h, destroyed buildings at the Avodah Spiritual Retreat. Firefighters are concerned that new winds may fan embers from the recent fires.
