Venod Skantha, the doctor convicted of murdering 16-year-old Amber-Rose Rush, took his own life in the Otago Corrections Facility. He died shortly after learning his appeal had failed. A coroner noted that staff had not been notified of the appeal outcome, an error that has since been corrected.
