MetService has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Ashburton, Timaru, and Mackenzie districts, valid until 8:15pm Tuesday. Radar detected severe thunderstorms near Peel Forest, Arundel, and Mount Peel. The storms bring risks of large hail and localised heavy rain across parts of the South Island.
