Two minor eruptions occurred at Whakaari/White Island last week, resulting in an ash plume rising between 400 and 500 metres. Satellite imagery has detected volcanic ash and sulphur dioxide, though scientists say the ashfall is unlikely to reach the mainland. The volcano remains at alert level three.
