Kent Street to become official State Highway 1 through Picton

Waka Kotahi has announced that Kent Street will officially become State Highway 1. The route, which has functioned as a de facto highway during ferry terminal works since 2023, will bypass central Picton and the Nelson Square roundabout. Some local residents expressed surprise at the decision.
