Minister for Rail Winston Peters has announced a plan for two new rail ferries to replace the Interislander fleet by 2029. The new vessels will feature rail decks and measure approximately 200m long. While Picton's marine infrastructure requires replacement, Wellington's infrastructure will be modified and reused.
