Severe weather watches issued for parts of the South Island

MetService has issued severe weather watches for the Westland, Buller, and Otago and Canterbury lake districts. Heavy rain and northwest gales are expected to affect central and southern New Zealand during Thursday and Friday. Some watches may be upgraded to orange-level warnings.
