Homicide investigation launched after woman found dead in Christchurch

Police have launched a homicide investigation after a woman was found dead at a property on Purchas Street in Edgeware, Christchurch, on Wednesday morning. Officers were called to the address just before 6am and found the woman deceased upon arrival.

A second person who was at the location is currently assisting police with their enquiries. Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Baillie stated that police are not seeking anyone else and there is no perceived risk to public safety.

A scene guard has been established and residents should expect an increased police presence and reassurance patrols in the area in the coming days. At the scene, officers were observed searching rubbish bins, empty beer boxes, and the area under a nearby car.

Neighbours reported a party or gathering at the address or an adjoining flat on Tuesday night. One resident reported hearing approximately 10 loud bangs at 3am. One neighbour described the deceased as "a really beautiful person".
