An active low pressure system from the Tasman Sea is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to much of the South Island starting Saturday. MetService has issued several weather watches, though Otago and Southland may avoid the worst conditions. The unsettled weather is forecast to move towards the North Island on Sunday.
